Short and grey days are finally over! The snow is slowly melting and the nature wakes up from her winter sleep. Flowers blooming with heavenly smelling flowers, lushly green meadows, birds chirping, and the warmth of the sun gently stroking our faces. Sounds like a dream, right? I know it's a dream for me as it's my most favourite season in Switzerland.
However, you might be wondering - how can I enjoy this beautiful season in Switzerland? What kind of activities can I do here on my holidays? No need to stress and do hours of research - I've got you covered with my tips on springtime activities and events in Switzerland in the upcoming months!
March
Even though March is considered by some as winter month in terms of sport activities (you may still go sledging, skiing and winter hiking), there are already plenty of fun activities to do on the lower altitudes or in warmer regions of Switzerland. In my opinion, March is a great month to experience first spring moments and enjoy beautiful parks and flower related events.
Camelie Locarno (18th - 22nd of March) - 5 day long event where you can visit Camellie Park Locarno with more than 1000 types of camelia species and take a boat trip to Brissago Islands and admire Brissagi Botanical Park. More info here. This year I'm visiting it for the first time - cannot wait for it!
Address: Via Respini 17, 6600 Locarno
Ticket price: Adults - 10 CHF, Seniors/Students - 8 CHF, Children (up to 16 y.o.) - free of charge. Tickets can be bought online here or at the Camelie Locarno ticket office.
Additional -20% discount for buying a train ticket to get to the event - offer available here.
Tip: Relax at Pasticcieria Marnin (Piazza Sant’Antonio, 6600 Locarno) and enjoy cup of coffee and apparently the best Colomba in whole canton Ticino!
Tulip Festival, Morges (27th of March - 10th of May) - one of my favourite flower events in Switzerland. Highly recommend coming mid-April as most of the tulips are then in full bloom (check the current status here). Each edition is dedicted to different theme (this year it's "Tales and Legends") which is displayed by various tulip compositions. More info here.
Address: Parc de l'Indépendance, 1110 Morges
Ticket price: Free of Charge
Tip: Grab a coffee and deliciously flaky and buttery pastry from Nomade Brew (Place de Charles Dufour 2, 1110 Morges) before you head to the Park.

Morges, 2022 Rose Fountains, Zurich (31st of March - 7th of April) - a wonderful new tradition which is held in Zurich since 2021. They celebrate upcoming Easter and symbolize Passion of Christ, but most importanly, Easter hope and joy that we all need nowadays. Four Zurcher fountains are filled with roses which is truly a unique thing to experience.
Addresses:
Münsterhof: In front of the Fraumünster church.
Münzplatz: By the Augustinerkirche.
Zähringerplatz: Near the Predigerkirche.
Helmhaus: At the Wasserkirche area
Ticket price: Free of Charge
Tips: Visit the fountains early in the morning to avoid the crowds and in the first days of the event to see fresh flowers.

April
April is the month to enjoy the Easter celebrations, spend time with family and friends on hikes but also it's time when truly unique events are happening in Switzerland. Check the list below for my top 3 choices in April.
Schwinget - Swiss wrestling, Ballenberg (19th of April) - Ballenberg Schwingfest marks the start for Schwinget season in Switerland. This beloved, especially in Central Switzerland, sport attracts many people, not only locals, but also tourist wanting to experience this unique event. More info here.
Address: Ballenberg Museum, Museumsstrasse 100
Ticket price: Adults - 18 CHF, Children (6-16) - 8 CHF. Tickets can be bought on the day of the event at the ticket office.
Tips: Visit the event as early as possible to pick the best seats.
Sechseläuten, Zurich (20th of April) - THE event of the spring which determines upcoming summer! Before Böögg (a snowman-like rag doll filled with explosive) is lit up, people gather up to enjoy parades of historical guilds, music ensembles and more. It's also an official start of the grill season :)
Tradition says, the shorter the time between litting Böögg up and its explosion, the better upcoming summer will be. More info here.
Address: Parade starts at Bahnhofstrasse, near the train station. Böögg is placed at Sechseläutenplatz.
Times: 3 pm: 3,500 guild members dressed in their respective attire parade through the Old Town, accompanied by their guild music ensembles, riders on horseback, and parade floats. They are showered with flowers and provide a colorful and musical procession along the route to Sechseläutenplatz.
6 pm: The pyre with the Böögg perched on top is set alight.
Ticket price: Free of charge
Wine Springtime, Salgesch (25th of April) - have you ever tried to roll a wine barrel down the hill? If not, this event is a perfect place to try it! Wine Springtime is not only a crazy adventure, but also a great way to try beautiful Swiss wines and delicacies from Wallis region. More info and ticket sale here.
Address: Kirchplatz, 3970 Salgesch

May
Finally the weather is more stable and the days are significally longer! And what's the best way to enjoy it according to Swiss? Attend a farmers market, an open Wine Cellar day or go to a cheese festival!
Tête de Moine Festival, Bellelay (1st - 3rd of May) - the festival celebrating one of the most unique cheeses of Switzerland. During this event, you can try Tete de Moine cheese, visit a farmers market, exhibition or attend an Organ concert in the church. More info (in German/French) here.

Tip: Bring some cash in case that card is not accepted at some stands.
Entlebuch Wild Plants and Herbs market, Escholztmatt (16th of May) - One of my favourite spring farmers market in Switzerland. You can try truly unique products like cheeses, jams and sausages from one of the most pristine regions in the country. If you live in Switzerland, this market is a perfect place to purchase native plants and herbs to your garden. I do this every year, especially that often I kill my plants and have to repurchase them year after year :D
Address: Dorfplatz Escholzmatt
Time: 9 am - 4 pm
Ticket price: Free of charge
Tip: Bring some cash in case that card is not accepted at some stands.
Even more wine events - check my website in the upcoming weeks to see the whole schedule for Open Cellars events in Switzerland.
